Guwahati, Aug 14: An inter-state drug dealer was arrested with heroin worth Rs 80 crore in Guwahati on Friday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The operation was carried out by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police.
"@STFAssam raided the premises of an inter-state drug dealer recovering heroin worth Rs 80cr. The dealer has been arrested as @assampolice contributes resolutely to the #NashaMuktBharat mission," Sarma said in a social media post.
An STF official said the raid was conducted based on specific information about a drug deal.
"We had information that this dealer from Punjab was staying in Guwahati to collect a consignment. Based on it, we conducted the raid," he said.
The accused had received the consignment from Manipur, which was recovered by the STF from a bag kept at the apartment where he was staying, he said.
"We have lodged a case and investigation has been started," he added.
