JAMMU, Aug 27: A three-member expert team of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Wednesday conducted a detailed technical inspection of the site of a fatal incident during construction of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway in Samba district to determine the cause of the accident and review the launching process.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at Package-15 of the expressway in Jakh village of Vijaypur tehsil, where a 25-year-old labourer from Bihar was crushed to death after a span segment slipped at the construction site.
According to NHAI Jammu, the expert team, comprising specialists with extensive experience in the field, examined the sophisticated launching gantry, relevant design details and the sequence of operations involved in the launching process.
“Prima facie, the incident appears to have occurred due to a technical snag during the launching operation,” NHAI said in a statement, adding that a detailed examination was underway to establish the precise cause and identify corrective and preventive measures.
The authority said the deceased labourer's family had been provided suitable compensation, while the company had also offered employment to the victim's next of kin.
NHAI said it remained committed to maintaining the highest safety standards during construction activities and for highway users.
“All necessary measures will continue to be undertaken to uphold safety standards across the project,” it said.
