Ladakh Administration Advises Tourists to Postpone Travel Amid Heavy Rainfall Alert

Leh, Jul 21: The Ladakh Administration has issued a public advisory urging tourists, commuters and other travellers to defer travel to vulnerable areas following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of heavy rainfall across the Union Territory. The advisory, issued by the Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR) Department, warned that the expected weather conditions could trigger flash floods, landslides, road blockages and disruption of essential services. Tourists planning to visit Ladakh have been advised to postpone their travel until weather conditions improve. Those already in the region have been urged to strictly follow district administration advisories and avoid rivers, nallahs, flood-prone areas and landslide-prone slopes. The administration also advised commuters not to cross swollen streams, damaged roads or unstable bridges and to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. Residents have been asked to remain vigilant, keep emergency supplies ready and immediately comply with evacuation orders if issued by local authorities. Meanwhile, all district administrations, emergency response agencies and field departments have been directed to remain on high alert and ensure preparedness to deal with any weather-related emergencies, including flash floods, landslides and road closures.
