UDHAMPUR, Sept 15: A Village Defence Guard (VDG) member was injured after his rifle allegedly went off accidentally in the Majalta area of Udhampur district on Tuesday, officials said.
The incident occurred when the rifle accidentally discharged, causing a gunshot wound to the abdomen of the VDG member, identified as Parshotam Lal, a resident of Chore Panjian in Majalta.
He was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment. His condition was not known immediately, officials said.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accidental firing.
