UKPNP Seeks UN Intervention Over Alleged Human Rights Violations in PoJK

AHORE, Aug 3 (UNI): The United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP) has called on the United Nations and the international community to intervene over what it described as a deteriorating human rights situation in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), urging immediate steps to protect civilians and ensure accountability. In a statement posted on X, the party appealed to the UN, democratic governments and international human rights organisations to address the alleged violations in the region, saying the situation requires urgent global attention. The UKPNP alleged that residents of PoJK are facing arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, restrictions on freedom of expression and excessive use of force against peaceful protesters. It also expressed concern over alleged curbs on civil liberties and demanded an independent international investigation into the reported abuses. The party urged the United Nations to deploy an independent fact-finding mission to assess the humanitarian and human rights situation in the region. It further called on international bodies to press Pakistan to fulfil its obligations under international human rights law and safeguard the fundamental rights and freedoms of the people in PoJK. The appeal comes amid increased attention on developments in PoJK following recent protests and reports of alleged human rights violations that have drawn concern from various political groups and international organisations.
