UDHAMPUR, SEPT 17: Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Majalta area of Udhampur district, officials said on Thursday.
The gunfight broke out late Wednesday evening after security forces received intelligence inputs about the presence of suspected terrorists in the area. Joint teams of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army launched a cordon-and-search operation to track down the suspected militants.
During the ensuing exchange of fire, two terrorists were killed. Security forces also recovered arms and ammunition from the encounter site.
Officials said the identities and affiliations of the slain terrorists have not yet been established. Further details regarding the weapons and ammunition recovered are awaited.
Following the operation, additional security personnel were deployed in the area as a precautionary measure. Security forces are carrying out extensive combing and search operations to determine whether any other terrorists could be hiding in the surrounding areas.
Searches are also being conducted at multiple locations, while heightened vigilance has been maintained across the region.
