Srinagar, September 21: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Sunil Sharma on Monday accused the Omar Abdullah-led government of avoiding questions raised by the BJP on issues concerning various sections of society.
Speaking to reporters after the Assembly was adjourned for the day, Sharma said BJP legislators had sought answers on issues affecting NHM employees, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, CAMPA workers, Gram Rozgar Sahayaks (GRS) and technical assistants.
“People are depressed due to outsourcing, and they demand answers. The Bharatiya Janata Party, acting as the voice for these victimised sections, demanded answers from the government today,” Sharma said.
He alleged that the government was not willing to address the concerns raised by the Opposition.
The BJP legislators disrupted proceedings on the opening day of the Autumn Session after the obituary references. Carrying posters, they initially protested from their seats before entering the well of the House and raising slogans over various issues.
The protests continued during Question Hour, even as the Speaker proceeded with the listed business amid the disruption.
“When the government fails, it becomes the duty of the Opposition to hold the government accountable before the people in the Assembly,” Sharma said, adding that the BJP would continue to raise public issues in the House.
Meanwhile, PDP MLA Waheed Para moved an adjournment motion seeking a discussion on the rationalisation of reservations in Jammu and Kashmir. He said unemployment and concerns over merit remained major issues facing the youth.
Para also called for a review of the existing reservation policy, arguing that it needed to be examined in light of concerns raised by young people in the Union Territory.
