Maharajganj (UP), Sep 12 : Security arrangements have been tightened along the India-Nepal border at Sonauli in view of the BRICS summit being held in Delhi, with security agencies maintaining heightened vigilance in the region, officials said.
People entering India from Nepal are being subjected to intensive checking and allowed to cross into the country only after verification. Their belongings are also being checked with the help of sniffer dogs, officials said.
CCTV cameras installed at various points along the border are being closely monitored to track movement and identify suspicious activity. Security personnel have also intensified surveillance in areas considered vulnerable from the security point of view.
Personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), which guards the India-Nepal border, are carrying out regular patrolling along sensitive stretches of the open border, including trails and other routes that could potentially be used for unauthorised movement.
Security agencies are also keeping a close watch on the movement of people and goods across the border and conducting detailed checks of suspicious persons, officials said.
SSB Assistant Commandant Sandeep Singh said security agencies were fully alert in view of the summit and that regular patrolling had been intensified along with checking of people and goods crossing the border.
