Jammu: Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma on Tuesday chaired a review meeting ahead of Independence Day and directed officers to further strengthen security around vital installations and religious places, including the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.
The officers were also directed to intensify checking and surveillance, and ensure enhanced security arrangements at all vulnerable and strategic points, especially the venue of the Independence Day celebrations, a police spokesperson said.
He said the DIG convened a meeting with all supervisory officers of Udhampur and Reasi districts to review the security preparedness and arrangements for the smooth and peaceful conduct of celebrations on August 15.
During the meeting, the DIG reviewed the overall security scenario and preparedness of both the districts and issued necessary directions to all stakeholders to work in close coordination and synergy to ensure foolproof arrangements, the spokesperson said.
The officers were directed to further strengthen security measures with special focus on vital installations, religious places, sensitive locations and important public places, the spokesperson said.
Special emphasis was laid on ensuring foolproof security arrangements at the venues where the national-level programmes will be hosted, including access control, deployment of adequate security personnel, traffic management and close coordination among all concerned agencies, the spokesperson said.
The DIG stressed upon all officers to maintain close coordination and effective communication among Police, Army, Central Armed Police Forces and intelligence and other agencies, besides ensuring round-the-clock vigilance and prompt response to any emerging security challenge.
Sharma also directed all officers to remain alert and ensure that all security arrangements are put in place well in advance so that the Independence Day celebrations are conducted in a secure, peaceful and befitting manner.
