Ganderbal, Sept 5: The higher reaches of Gumri and the Zojila area received the season’s first snowfall on Saturday, marking the onset of colder weather conditions in the high-altitude areas of central Kashmir.
Fresh snowfall was recorded across mountain peaks and upper reaches of Gumri and Zojila, covering the landscape in a white blanket and adding to the scenic beauty of the region.
The snowfall comes amid a gradual dip in temperatures in the higher reaches, where weather conditions have turned noticeably colder compared to the plains. The change has also transformed the mountainous terrain along the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Zojila axis.
The first snowfall of the season has drawn the attention of locals, commuters and authorities, particularly as Zojila is a crucial high-altitude route connecting Kashmir with Ladakh.
Further deterioration in weather conditions could result in a sharp fall in temperatures and occasional disruptions on high-altitude roads if the snowfall intensifies.
Authorities and commuters are expected to closely monitor weather and road conditions in the Zojila sector in view of the fresh snowfall.
