Sarvesh Kushare Creates History With India’s First CWG Men’s High Jump Silver
GLASGOW, Jul 28: National record holder Sarvesh Kushare created history by becoming the first Indian to win a silver medal in the men’s high jump at the Commonwealth Games. Competing in his maiden Commonwealth Games, the 31-year-old cleared 2.25 metres to finish second behind Jamaica’s Romaine Beckford. Both athletes failed to clear 2.28m, but Beckford secured the gold on countback, while England’s Jack Kimani claimed bronze with a jump of 2.20m. India’s Adarsh Ram finished fifth after clearing 2.15m. Kushare improved on Tejaswin Shankar’s bronze medal at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, making him the first Indian to win a silver in the men’s high jump event at the Games. His podium finish also marked his first Commonwealth Games medal.
