SRINAGAR, Aug 18: Peoples Conference president and Handwara MLA Sajad Lone on Tuesday rejected reports that he had boycotted the Independence Day celebrations in Kupwara, terming the reports “pure gibberish.”
Lone clarified that he was not in Kupwara on the day of the Independence Day parade and said there was no question of him deliberately staying away from the event.
“Nothing of that sort happened. I was not in Kupwara on that particular day. That is it,” he said.
Reacting to the reports, Lone said the narrative surrounding his alleged boycott was baseless and sought to put the matter to rest by clarifying his position.
Advisor to Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani hoisted the national flag in Kupwara during the 80th Independence Day celebrations.
MLA Lolab Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, MLA Trehgam Mir Saifullah, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Shrikant Suse, SSP Kupwara Al-Tahir Gilani, Deputy GOC, 28 Division, Shakhtavat, and Commanding Officer, 41 Rashtriya Rifles, Anupam Thapa, besides senior civil and police officials and former Panchayati Raj Institution representatives, attended the function.
