Ramban administration warns against fake WhatsApp account impersonating DC

JAMMU, Sep 3: The Ramban district administration has cautioned residents against a fake WhatsApp and social media account created using the name and photograph of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan.

Khan, in a post on his official X account, issued a public advisory and clarified that the account operating through the mobile number mentioned in the fake profile was not genuine.

“A fake WhatsApp, social media account has been created using the name and photograph of Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan. The number shown in the screenshot is not original,” he said.

The Deputy Commissioner urged people not to respond to or engage with the account, share personal information, transfer money or entertain any requests made through it.

He also appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report such fake accounts to the concerned authorities to help prevent cyber fraud.

The district administration further advised residents to verify the authenticity of any message, call or request purportedly sent by government officials before sharing personal details or carrying out any financial transaction.

The advisory comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of officials’ identities through fake social media profiles and messaging accounts.
