Jaipur, Sep 9: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Wednesday claimed that his government had taken steps to address the problem of "love jihad" in the state and promulgated an anti-conversion law.
He also said the government had brought in the Disturbed Areas Bill to prevent the forced migration of people from Jaipur's walled city, which has a sizeable population of Muslims, asserting that no one needed to be afraid and those troubling the public would face imprisonment.
Sharma made the remarks during a roadshow in Jaipur on the last day of campaigning for the municipal elections and appealed to voters to elect BJP candidates. He highlighted his government's measures on development, water and power supply and employment.
The election in Jaipur municipal area is scheduled for September 11.
The roadshow was held from Sanganeri Gate to Tripolia Gate in support of BJP candidates.
Citing an increase in love jihad cases and to bring peace and harmony, the chief minister said the state government had last year brought the Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2025.
He said the state government had also brought the Rajasthan Disturbed Areas Bill 2026 to regulate and block property sales, transfers and tenant evictions in communally sensitive regions.
Several such cases were highlighted in the walled city area of Jaipur by BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya from Hawa Mahal assembly constituency.
Hitting at the previous Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government, Sharma said it had created two municipal corporations each in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota, while his government had restored the "one city, one municipal corporation" system.
He said Rajasthan had been progressing rapidly under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and claimed that several projects that had remained pending for decades were being implemented during his government's two-and-a-half-year tenure.
On water supply, Sharma highlighted the Ramjal Setu Link Project and the Yamuna water agreement, besides projects involving the Indira Gandhi Canal, Gang Canal, Dewas, Som-Kamla-Amba, Mahi Dam and Brahmani river.
He claimed that the state had become a power-surplus state, saying his government had added 12,000 MW of power generation capacity in two-and-a-half years compared with 3,900 MW during the previous Congress government.
On employment, Sharma said his government had issued 1.89 lakh appointment letters, while recruitment processes for 1.22 lakh posts were underway and vacancies for another 70,000 posts had been announced.
He also accused the previous Congress government of failing to prevent paper leaks and said more than 600 people linked to such cases had been sent to jail since the BJP government came to power.
Sharma claimed that around 450 examinations had been conducted during his government's tenure and not a single paper had been leaked.
He also accused the previous government of delaying projects such as the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) and the Yamuna water project, and said his government had expanded Jaipur's Metro network to more than 41 km.
Appealing to voters to elect BJP candidates in the municipal and panchayat bodies, Sharma said the addition of the "triple engine" to the BJP's double-engine government would strengthen local bodies and accelerate development.
