CHANDIGARH, Aug 10: Punjab Police has busted an alleged ISI-sponsored Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module with the arrest of a key operative and recovered an 86-P hand grenade, foiling a suspected terror attack, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Monday.
The operation was carried out jointly by Counter Intelligence, Jalandhar, and SBS Nagar Police. According to the DGP, the arrested accused had allegedly procured the grenade from a Dead Letter Box (DLB) near Adampur in Jalandhar on the directions of foreign-based handlers.
Taking to X, Yadav said the operation marked a major breakthrough against cross-border terror networks and that the module was allegedly being operated by foreign-based handlers.
A Dead Letter Box is a covert method used by terror groups, handlers and organised crime networks to exchange instructions, funds or weapons without direct contact between individuals.
An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosive Substances Act.
Further investigation is underway to uncover the wider network, including the alleged foreign handlers, local support systems and other forward and backward linkages, the DGP said.
