New Delhi, Aug 9: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said Operation Sindoor demonstrated the courage of India’s armed forces and sent a clear message that the country would go to any extent to protect the safety of its citizens.
Addressing a blood donation camp, ‘Sindoor Maharaktadan Yatra’, at Base Hospital, Delhi Cantonment, Singh said the operation reflected the armed forces’ resolve to eliminate terrorists and their handlers based in Pakistan.
“Operation Sindoor demonstrated the unmatched valour of our defence forces who sent a global message that India will go to any extent to ensure the safety of its citizens,” Singh said.
The Indian armed forces carried out Operation Sindoor in May 2025 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Drawing a parallel between the blood donation drive and Operation Sindoor, Singh said the former represented compassion while the latter symbolised courage and determination.
The minister expressed gratitude to the donors and said the blood collected would help maintain reserves for soldiers and their families. He described blood donation as “jivandan” and “mahadan”, stressing that there is still no artificial substitute for human blood.
Singh urged people, particularly the youth, to make voluntary blood donation a regular practice. He said every blood donor and recipient contributes to the service of the nation.
“By 2047, our vision should not be limited to becoming a developed economy. We must also build a compassionate society where people are healthy and safe and essential resources such as blood are available when needed,” he said.
The event saw participation from athletes and wrestlers from Maharashtra, along with senior military and civil officials. The Defence Ministry said the initiative reaffirmed the spirit of “service before self”.
Singh also highlighted the importance of maintaining adequate blood reserves for Armed Forces Medical Services, which cater to routine healthcare as well as operational, trauma and emergency requirements.
