NIA Names Hafiz Saeed in Supplementary Chargesheet in Pahalgam Terror Attack Case
Jammu, July 6: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary chargesheet against Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder and chief Hafiz Saeed in connection with the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 people. According to the NIA, the supplementary chargesheet was filed before the Special NIA Court in Jammu, naming Hafiz Saeed in his individual capacity as well as in his role as the chief of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its proxy outfit, The Resistance Front (TRF). The agency has charged Saeed under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The charges also include waging war against India and conspiring from across the border to carry out the attack. The supplementary chargesheet forms part of the ongoing investigation and follows the original 1,597-page chargesheet filed by the NIA. It outlines Pakistan’s alleged conspiracy, Hafiz Saeed’s role in the attack, and evidence gathered through scientific investigation and field inquiries. Earlier, on December 15, 2025, the NIA had chargesheeted Pakistani handler Sajid Jatt, three terrorists killed during Operation Mahadev in July 2025, and two arrested accused. The agency had also named the banned LeT/TRF as a legal entity for its alleged role in planning and executing the attack. The April 22, 2025, terror attack in Pahalgam, Anantnag district, targeted tourists on the basis of religion, resulting in the deaths of 25 tourists and one local civilian. The case was initially registered at Pahalgam Police Station before being transferred to the NIA by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The NIA said investigations are continuing to uncover the full extent of the alleged cross-border conspiracy behind the attack.
