JAMMU: National Health Mission (NHM) employees in Jammu and Kashmir have called off their ongoing strike following a written assurance from Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on their long-pending demands.
The decision was taken after discussions between representatives of the protesting employees and the government. During the meeting, the minister assured the employees that their genuine demands would be examined and appropriate action would be taken.
Following the written assurance, the NHM employees suspended their protest and resumed duties, paving the way for the restoration of healthcare services that had been affected during the strike.
The employees had been seeking resolution of several long-pending issues, including job security, regularisation of services and improvements in their service conditions.
Representatives of the NHM employees welcomed the government’s assurance and expressed appreciation to Minister Sakeena Itoo for providing the commitment in writing. They said they would await further action from the government on the issues discussed.
The end of the strike is expected to help restore normal functioning of NHM-related healthcare services across Jammu and Kashmir and provide relief to patients who may have faced disruptions during the protest.
The employees’ decision to resume work follows the government’s assurance to consider their demands, with further action expected on the commitments made.
