Jammu, September 3: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta today said that the party is unwaveringly committed to securing social, economic and political justice for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBCs and other weaker and marginalized sections of society.
Gupta was interacting with office bearers and functionaries of the SC Wing of JKNC at the NC Provincial Headquarters, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, in the presence of Vijay Lochan, Chairman SC Wing, JKNC Jammu, who assumed charge of his new office at the Provincial Headquarters, and Tejinder Pal Singh Aman, Provincial President, Youth National Conference (YNC) Jammu.
Gupta said that the Omar Abdullah-led Government is working towards inclusive and equitable development, with special focus on the welfare of weaker and disadvantaged sections. He said that social justice cannot remain confined to slogans and must be reflected in employment opportunities, education, economic empowerment, welfare schemes and equal participation in the development process. He asserted that the National Conference has historically championed the cause of the poor, marginalized, weaker and deprived sections, and will continue to safeguard their constitutional rights and interests. The party believes that every citizen, irrespective of caste, creed or economic status, deserves dignity, equality and equal opportunities.
Taking a dig at the BJP, Gupta said that the people are now seeking concrete measures rather than political rhetoric and divisive narratives. He alleged that attempts to exploit social and regional sentiments for political gains would not succeed, as the people of Jammu and Kashmir have repeatedly demonstrated their faith in democratic, secular and inclusive politics.
Congratulating Vijay Lochan on assuming the new Office, Gupta expressed confidence that under his leadership the SC Wing would emerge as a stronger platform for highlighting the genuine concerns of the Scheduled Caste community and ensuring their effective representation at every level. He said the NC would continue to oppose every attempt aimed at weakening social harmony, democratic institutions and the rights of weaker sections. The strength of Jammu and Kashmir lies in unity, inclusiveness and equal participation of all communities, he added.
He also urged party workers to strengthen the organizational base of the National Conference and spread the message of social justice, secularism, democracy and inclusive development across Jammu province. “The National Conference stands firmly with the weaker and marginalized sections, and will continue to fight for their rights, dignity and equitable share in development,” Gupta said.
