Nadda Accuses Opposition of Vitiating Atmosphere Over SIR Row

NEW DELHI, Sept 28: Union minister J P Nadda on Monday accused the Congress and its allies of attempting to "vitiate" the country's atmosphere over the controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, despite the Election Commission's recent clarification on the issue.

Addressing reporters here, Nadda alleged that the INDIA bloc was looking for new ways to create "confusion and anarchy" as it was frustrated with the country's progress.

"We all witnessed the uproar created across the country just a few days ago over a fabricated story. Now that the members of the Election Commission have exposed every lie, they (opposition parties) are once again attempting to vitiate the atmosphere," he said.

Nadda accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee of targeting autonomous and constitutional institutions.

He alleged that the opposition leaders were more focused on seeking political power than on issues concerning national security and public welfare.

"Rahul Gandhi ji, listen carefully: repeating a lie a hundred times does not make it the truth," Nadda said.

The Election Commission has maintained that decisions relating to the SIR were taken unanimously, while opposition parties have continued to raise questions about the poll panel's functioning and the electoral-roll revision exercise.

Nadda further said people had understood what he described as the "double standards" of the opposition and claimed that forces seeking to create instability had faced rejection in the past.

"People have taught a befitting lesson to the forces seeking to create instability in the country in the past, and will do so in the future too," he said.
