New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged citizens to celebrate Independence Day with pride and honour and take a pledge to build a developed India, calling for the Tricolour to be displayed in every home.
In a post on Instagram, Modi shared a video showing NDA MPs and Union ministers welcoming him with the national flag and slogans of “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” as he arrived at the ruling alliance's weekly parliamentary party meeting.
“Let us pay tribute to our freedom fighters. Let us take a pledge for a developed India. Har Ghar Tiranga, Ghar Ghar Tiranga, Har Mann Tiranga,” Modi said in the video, urging people to hoist the national flag at their homes.
As the Prime Minister entered the GMC Balayogi Auditorium at the Parliament House complex, NDA MPs and ministers waved the Tricolour and raised patriotic slogans. Modi reciprocated by holding a national flag and waving towards the gathering.
The meeting was attended by BJP president Nitin Nabin and senior Union ministers, including Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Nitin Gadkari, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and S Jaishankar.
Several leaders of NDA constituent parties also participated, including HD Kumaraswamy of the JD(S), Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu of the TDP, Ramdas Athawale, Praful Patel and Upendra Kushwaha.
Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Paatil also made a presentation at the meeting on various aspects of the ministry, including water conservation, management and development.
The NDA parliamentary party meeting is held every Tuesday when Parliament is in session. The Monsoon Session, which began on July 20, is scheduled to conclude on August 13.
Later, NDA and INDIA bloc MPs staged rival protests outside Parliament's main entrance, Makar Dwar.
Ruling alliance MPs raised slogans over alleged police action against job aspirants in Jharkhand and accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of avoiding a debate on student protests.
The Opposition, meanwhile, protested over alleged irregularities in donations to the Ram temple in Ayodhya and sought accountability from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over alleged police excesses during student protests on July 20.
The Monsoon Session has witnessed repeated disruptions, with limited legislative business being conducted amid Opposition protests. Several Bills have been passed with little or no debate, including legislation related to public examinations and unfair means.
