LoP Sunil Sharma Alleges Omar Abdullah Govt Rewarded Main Accused in 2012 MBBS Paper Leak Scam

JAMMU, July 23: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Kumar Sharma, on Thursday accused the Omar Abdullah-led government of rewarding the main accused in the 2012 MBBS entrance paper leak scam by granting him an extension in service and later appointing him as a consultant after retirement. In a statement, Sharma alleged that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was in no position to lecture others on transparency and accountability, claiming that his government had patronized the key accused in the alleged paper-selling scam. “Before giving lectures on transparency and portraying himself as holier-than-thou, the Chief Minister should not forget how he gave an extension to Mushtaq Peer, the main accused in the sale of question papers for the Common Entrance Test (CET)-2012. He was also appointed as a consultant for fast-track recruitment of Class IV posts after retirement. The people of Jammu and Kashmir know that the Omar Abdullah-led government patronized the main accused,” Sharma said. The BJP leader also questioned why the then government and investigating agencies allegedly remained inactive until the Jammu and Kashmir High Court intervened in the matter. “The Court stepped in after the Amicus Curiae informed it that reports had surfaced of JKCET-2012 question papers being sold before the scheduled examination dates in exchange for large sums of money. Despite specific complaints, the Vigilance Organisation and the Crime Branch failed to take action,” Sharma alleged. Sharma further claimed that allegations of examination paper leaks had also emerged during the 2025 Junior Engineer (Electrical) recruitment examination, asserting that such incidents reflected a continuing concern over the integrity of recruitment and examination processes. The remarks came as part of the ongoing political exchange over issues of transparency, governance, and recruitment in Jammu and Kashmir.
