SRINAGAR, Aug 15: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday hoisted the National Flag at Lok Bhavan here to mark the 80th Independence Day and paid tribute to freedom fighters, soldiers and security personnel who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
The Lieutenant Governor joined the nation in remembering the countless men and women whose sacrifices paved the way for India’s independence and paid homage to those who devoted their lives to safeguarding the country’s unity and integrity.
Sinha said the nation would always remain indebted to the brave sons and daughters of the country who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom, unity and sovereignty.
He also paid tribute to civilians who lost their lives in natural calamities during the past year and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families.
Extending Independence Day greetings to personnel of the Armed Forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces and other security agencies, the Lieutenant Governor acknowledged their contribution towards maintaining peace and protecting the nation.
Sinha expressed gratitude to soldiers and police personnel who laid down their lives while defending the country’s unity and combating terrorism.
He said the sacrifices of the nation’s bravehearts should inspire citizens to work collectively towards building a stronger, more prosperous and peaceful India.
Calling upon people to contribute towards peace, development and progress, Sinha stressed the need for collective efforts to realise the vision of a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir and a developed nation.
The Independence Day ceremony at Lok Bhavan reflected the spirit of patriotism and remembrance, honouring those who fought for India’s freedom as well as those who continue to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and unity.
