SRINAGAR, Sept 1: The Jammu and Kashmir Casual Daily Wagers Forum on Tuesday staged a protest in Srinagar, demanding time-bound regularisation and resolution of their long-pending service-related issues.
Forum president Sajad Ahmed Parray urged the Government to expedite the regularisation process and implement a concrete roadmap for settling the demands of daily wagers, including restoration of pension.
Parray said a committee constituted by the J&K Assembly had been tasked with preparing a six-month roadmap for regularisation, but no report has been made public even after 18 months.
He alleged that daily wagers continue to face uncertainty as their expenses remain unsettled, job security is lacking and no permanent policy has been introduced.
Parray claimed that around four lakh daily wagers and casual workers had supported the Government during the elections based on its promises, but alleged that their concerns were now being ignored.
He also raised issues concerning casual labourers, SPOs and Anganwadi workers, questioning the silence of legislators on their demands.
The forum warned of intensifying its agitation if the Government failed to address their concerns by September 10. Parray said delegates would meet on that day to decide the future course of the protest, which, he added, would continue until the demands are fulfilled.
