Iran, Oman, Saudi Arabia Call for Coordinated Diplomacy to Secure Strait of Hormuz
Tehran, Jul 28: Iran, Oman and Saudi Arabia have called for stronger diplomatic coordination to safeguard the security of the Strait of Hormuz and promote stability in the region amid continuing tensions in West Asia.
The issue was discussed during separate telephone conversations between Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, the three foreign ministers stressed the importance of enhancing regional cooperation and pursuing joint diplomatic initiatives to ensure stability and address security concerns surrounding the strategic waterway.
The discussions followed recent talks between Iran and Oman in Tehran on ensuring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The two sides exchanged views on mechanisms for managing maritime traffic while respecting the sovereign rights of countries bordering the strait.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the talks focused on maintaining safe passage for commercial shipping and preserving stability along one of the world’s most important energy transit routes.
The diplomatic engagement comes after weeks of heightened tensions following US military strikes on Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory missile and drone attacks on US military facilities in the region.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters warned that any continuation of what it described as a US naval blockade targeting Iranian vessels or commercial shipping would be viewed as an escalation of the conflict. It said Iran’s armed forces would respond to any perceived threats.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global oil shipping corridor and a key strategic flashpoint, with regional powers continuing diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation and ensure uninterrupted maritime security.
