Kathmandu, September 24: An Indian national was among two people arrested at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Thursday after authorities allegedly recovered illegal gold from their possession, police said.
The Indian national, identified as Mohammad Chera Thodi, 42, was arrested from the airport’s parking area after police reportedly became suspicious of his activities.
According to authorities, Thodi had arrived in Kathmandu from Doha on a Qatar Airways flight. During a security check, officials recovered 536 grams of gold from his luggage, which was allegedly being carried without the required documentation.
Police also arrested a Nepali national identified as Anish Ansari, 32, a resident of Pachrauta Municipality in Bara district.
Ansari was travelling on the same flight and was allegedly found carrying 69.6 grams of gold without supporting documents, police said.
Both suspects have been taken into custody for further investigation, while authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged illegal transportation of the gold.
