Govt Ready To Discuss Students’ Protests, Shah Urges Opposition To Let Parliament Function

New Delhi, Aug 12: Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said the government was ready to discuss all issues in Parliament, including the ongoing students’ protests, and urged the Opposition to allow the House to function.

Speaking to reporters at the Parliament complex, Shah said the Opposition could submit a written notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla by 2 pm to initiate a discussion on the issue.

“We are ready to discuss all the issues in Parliament, including students’ protests; let the House function,” Shah said.

He said that if the Opposition submitted the notice by the stipulated time, the discussion could begin at 3 pm on Wednesday and continue until 3 pm on Thursday.

Shah also said he would respond to the debate at 3 pm on Thursday if the discussion commenced as proposed.

The Home Minister’s remarks came amid disruptions in Parliament, with the government seeking the Opposition’s cooperation to ensure that legislative and other parliamentary business proceeds smoothly.
