NEW DELHI, Sept 20: The UGC Rollback Savarna Mahapanchayat, scheduled to be held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Sunday, has been postponed following discussions between Union Ministers J P Nadda and Jitendra Singh and representatives of the Kshatriya Karni Sena.
Nadda announced the development in a post on X early Sunday, saying he and Jitendra Singh held discussions with Raj Shekhawat, president of the Kshatriya Karni Sena and founder of the UGC Rollback Savarna Mahapanchayat Committee, along with members of his delegation.
According to Nadda, the concerns raised by the delegation were discussed in a cordial atmosphere, and the government would consider the issues raised by them. He said another meeting with the delegation would be held within the next three weeks.
Following the discussions, Shekhawat and his delegation decided to postpone the Mahapanchayat that was scheduled for September 20.
The delegation included Shubhanshu Singh Rajput, national president of Samriddh Sanatan Sangh; R K Singh, IT cell president of the All India Kshatriya Mahasabha; advocate Sangeeta Singh, national president of the women's wing of Kshatriya Karni Sena; and advocate Himanshu Sharma, legal adviser to the Savarna Mahapanchayat Committee.
The proposed gathering was intended to raise concerns regarding the UGC Regulations, 2026, as well as issues related to reservation policies.
Shekhawat later said the government had sought three weeks to examine the issues raised by the organisation and conduct a detailed review before the next round of discussions.
He said several rounds of talks had already taken place with senior Union ministers and government representatives, during which concerns regarding the UGC Regulations, 2026 were discussed.
Shekhawat announced that the September 20 Mahapanchayat had been postponed until further notice, adding that discussions with the government on the demands would continue.
The development comes after a separate meeting last month between Nadda and members of the Reservation Hatao Andolan, following a gathering at Jantar Mantar on August 21 that called for reservation policies based on economic criteria rather than caste.
