CBI Arrests J&K PWD Assistant Engineer for Allegedly Accepting Bribe in PMGSY Compensation Case
Jammu, July 17: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Engineer of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Works Department (PWD), posted under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe to process a compensation claim in Doda district. According to the CBI, the case was registered on July 16, 2026, based on a complaint alleging that the complainant's house was damaged during the execution of the PMGSY road project connecting Thathri to Kathawa in Doda district. The complainant was reportedly entitled to compensation of around ₹10 lakh for the damage. The agency alleged that the Assistant Engineer demanded a bribe of ₹50,000 to process and release the compensation amount. Following negotiations, the accused allegedly agreed to accept ₹30,000 from the complainant. Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on July 16 and caught the accused red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting the bribe of ₹30,000. The accused was arrested, and further investigation into the case is underway, the CBI said.
