JAMMU, J&K, September 5, 2026: The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Jammu & Kashmir Chapter, has announced its newly elected Governing Body for the 2026–2028 term, following elections conducted from September 1 to 3, 2026.
Ar. Vishal Abrol has been elected as Chairperson of the IIA J&K Chapter, leading a newly constituted 14-member team of architects.
The new leadership comprises Ar. Habinder Pal Singh as Vice Chairperson, Ar. Sandeepu Dhar and Ar. Sunil Nagari as Joint Honorary Secretaries, and Ar. Manu Rajput as Honorary Treasurer.
The Executive Committee includes Ar. Maninder Singh, Ar. Randhir Chand, Ar. Vivek Sagar Sharma, Ar. Kulbir Thakur, Ar. Anav Sharma, Ar. Archana Razdan, Ar. Arshia Khajooria, Ar. Anoop Sharma and Ar. Kushagra Anand.
A notable feature of the newly elected 14-member Governing Body is the representation of four women architects, reflecting the growing contribution and leadership of women in the architectural profession in Jammu & Kashmir. Their representation also underscores the Chapter’s commitment to greater inclusivity, diversity and recognition of women’s leadership within the profession.
The elections witnessed active participation from architects across the Union Territory, reflecting the fraternity’s strong engagement with the democratic process of the Institute and its collective interest in shaping the future direction of the profession.
Speaking after the declaration of the results, Chairperson Ar. Vishal Abrol expressed his gratitude to the members of the Chapter for placing their trust in the newly elected team. He stated that the incoming Governing Body would focus on strengthening unity within the Architectural fraternity, expanding professional opportunities, promoting knowledge exchange and creating greater avenues for professional development.
He further emphasised that the IIA J&K Chapter would seek to proactively engage with government departments, civic bodies, educational institutions and other stakeholders to address professional concerns, promote better architectural practices and contribute constructively towards improving the quality and standards of the built environment across Jammu & Kashmir.
Under the new leadership, the Chapter intends to strengthen professional engagement and advocacy while creating platforms for continuing education, research, collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Particular emphasis will also be placed on encouraging young architects and architecture students and facilitating greater interaction between professionals, academia and other stakeholders.
The architectural fraternity of Jammu & Kashmir has extended its congratulations and best wishes to Ar. Vishal Abrol and the newly elected Governing Body, expressing confidence that the new team will work collectively to uphold the dignity of the profession and effectively represent the interests and aspirations of architects across the Union Territory.
